There is a particular heartbreak in losing a beloved piece of jewellery, especially when years of searching for a replacement never quite capture the magic. When a client came to me hoping to recreate a cherished pair of engraved ruby damselfly earrings lost long ago, I was eager to get every detail right. Adapting the damselfly from my 'Precious Bugs' collection as a starting point, we finally reunited them.

Crafting these earrings demanded an extraordinary level of miniature precision. I used the existing damselfly model from my collection of moulds as the base for gold casting, then flush-set microscopic 0.8mm rubies into the eyes for a subtle, fiery flash. From there, I hand-engraved the intricate texture of the body and wings, fine lines capturing the character of the pair missed for so long.
